Wall ‘O Shame
I’ve come across some dumb code in my day and have been responsible for a bit myself, too –
Coming across dumb coding mistakes is welcome treat from the monotony that sometimes accompanies debugging someone else’s code. Sometimes it’s just sad, sometimes it’s harmless but interesting, and sometimes it’s down right funny. Let’s face it, stupid thoughts that someone went to the trouble to code are funny! Mistakes or slip ups can be funny, too.
My high school English teacher used to keep a running list of quotes that had come out of his students’ mouths. Aside from the occasional piece of wit or dark humor, most of the quotes were patently absurd. The only one I can remember perfectly was one that I overheard in Algebra and suggested that he add (which he did):
“So, with the vertical line test, do the lines always have to be up-and-down?”
The idea for this page is analogous to my teacher’s quote list, except it’s meant for those absurd pieces of code that make you chuckle. If you’ve got one, leave it in a comment!
